Discover Kynren – an Epic Tale of England

Things to see and do

Discover Kynren – An Epic Tale of England, the spectacular live‑action show near Bishop Auckland, County Durham—a must‑see summer evening adventure that brings two millennia of British history to life 🌟.

Every Saturday from July to September, 1,000 local volunteers perform on a 7.5-acre outdoor stage beneath the dramatic silhouette of Auckland Castle, taking you through a breathtaking 90‑minute story spanning Romans, Vikings, medieval knights, World Wars, and the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Featuring equine stunts, spectacular choreography, animatronic sets, and stunning pyrotechnics, Kynren delivers Disney‑calibre magic in the heart of the North East

For 2025, the show celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway with the iconic Locomotion No.1 steam engine replica chugging across the stage—a moving tribute to the birthplace of the modern railway

The experience begins hours before curtains rise with an immersive Viking Village, where visitors can explore cooking huts, watch blacksmiths at work, meet friendly farm animals, and engage with charismatic warriors—an excellent prelude to the evening’s drama

Tickets start at approximately £30 for adults and £20 for children, with concessions and VIP dining options available. Children under three attend free on an adult’s knee.

Run by the local charity 11Arches, supported by The Auckland Project, Kynren has helped transform Bishop Auckland into a thriving cultural destination, drawing thousands of visitors each summer and introducing major initiatives including Kynren: The Storied Lands, a new daytime historical theme park opening in Summer 2026

Whether you’re a history buff, thrill‑seeker, or family looking for unforgettable summer evenings, Kynren promises an emotional, educational, and stunning spectacle that resonates long after the finale fireworks fade
